Willem Dhooge is a Bioengineer Chemistry, graduated from the Ghent University, Belgium. He further obtained an engineering degree in environmental sciences and a PhD degree in Medical Sciences. In May 2006 he joined the team of FlandersBio in support of companies engaging in European research programs and looking for transnational biotech licensing opportunities. In 2009 he became Project Manager Industrial Biotechnology setting up and running the highly successful CINBIOS network on Industrial Biotechnology and Biorefineries.
Willem was actively involved in the development of the new six pillar based strategy of the organisation in 2016. Today, he is responsible for the further development of the financial services of FlandersBio and is in the process of setting up a number of topic specific platforms in the medical device area thereby leveraging the expertise on life sciences, biotechnology and micro & nanoelectronics.

Christel received her law degree magna cum laude from the University of Brussels (ULB) in 2003 and obtained a post-graduate degree in international business law magna cum laude from that same university the following year. She joined NautaDutilh in 2004. Member of the Brussels bar, Christel specializes in intellectual property and regulatory affairs. She counsels large companies as well as start-ups, SMEs, universities and research institutes active in various innovative fields, in particular the life sciences and healthcare sectors (including bio-pharma, med tech, diagnostics, IT specialists). She has particular expertise in patent litigation, including assisting innovative companies with the development of life-cycle management strategies and the defense of their intellectual property rights (in particular patents and SPCs). In addition to her advisory and litigation practice, Christel is regularly involved in due diligence (in the framework of mergers, acquisitions and IPOs).

Heidi graduated from the University of Antwerp in 2009 and was admitted to the Brussels Bar that same year. She joined NautaDutilh in 2014, after gaining valuable experience at several other reputable law firms. Heidi specializes in data protection/privacy, intellectual property, market practices and consumer protection, e-commerce and contract law. Heidi counsels large companies as well as start-ups and SME’s in various sectors such as the life sciences sector, the fast moving consumer goods sector and the media sector. She has experience in both litigation and non-contentious matters. In particular, she has extensive experience in advising businesses on compliance with data protection and privacy laws. She also assists companies in complaint proceedings before the Belgian data protection authority. Heidi frequently speaks on legal topics (mainly data protection and privacy) in various fields, including the healthcare sector.

Expert in Medical Device using additive technologies, Grégory Nolens is specialized in product development based on innovative process for industrial end using.  After a biomedical PhD thesis mixed with engineering cursus, Grégory got specialized in biomaterials and cutting-edge manufacturing process. Driven by the human aspect of medicine, he worked at Sirris in additive technologies development using background of physicians and engineers. Afterwards, he decided to create Cerhum to set his expertise at the service of new innovative medical products.  He is also external lecturer at University of Namur teaching realities and innovation in biomedical industry.

Marilys received her Engineering degree in Polymer Materials from ENSCPB (Ecole Nationale Supérieure de Chimie et de Physique de Bordeaux, France) in 2009 and then joined Rescoll as an R&D Engineer working for the Medical Devices department. Marilys is now in charge of the implementation of innovative processes and the development of polymer materials for biomedical applications in order to meet customers’ requirements and needs.

Christian Huyghe studied Medicine at the University of Ghent, and graduated in 1980. Next, he went to the Netherlands to specialize in internal medicine and oncology. He entered the pharmaceutical industry in 1985, where he held several positions in major health care companies, of which the most important ones were in market access and medical affairs. In 2009, he founded HealthProAccess, a consultancy company giving you strategic advice on market access.

Benoît Herman received the M.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering from Université Catholique de Louvain (UCL), Belgium, in 2004, and the Ph.D. degree from UCL and Université Montpellier 2, France, in 2009, in the field of robotics for laparoscopic surgery. He was a Postdoctoral Research Assistant at Institut des Systèmes Intelligents et de Robotique, Université Pierre & Marie Curie – Paris 6, in 2010-2011, and a F.R.S.-FNRS postdoctoral researcher with the Institute of Mechanics, Materials, and Civil Engineering (iMMC, UCL) in 2010-2014. His research interests include the design and experimental performance assessment of robots and mechatronic devices for surgical assistance, with a particular focus on the usability of these systems and their user interfaces. He is currently the coordinator of Louvain Bionics (UCL), research associate with iMMC, and invited assistant lecturer with École Polytechnique de Louvain (EPL).

Marnix Denys is a commercial engineer from the KU Leuven (1990) and holds an MBA from INSEAD (2001). He is a generalist with affinity for sales and marketing and worked in the chemical industry (Akzo Nobel) before joining the medtech industry after his MBA. After various international leadership roles within a multinational (Guidant / Abbott Vascular) and a start-up (Direct Flow Medical), he joined beMedTech as managing director in 2016.

beMedTech is the Belgian Federation of the Industry of Medical Technologies and is the discussion partner of the various agencies (Ministry of Health, Riziv/Inami, FAGG/AFMPS,…) regarding current topics such as safety, traceability, reimbursement, home-care, healthcare reform and others.

As the ANSYS Global Industry Director since 2006, Thierry Marchal leads the medical devices, pharmaceutical and biotech strategy of ANSYS by closely interacting with industrial innovator and SMEs, academic leaders and governmental and regulatory authorities such as the FDA. In his 25+ years of professional experience, Thierry has worked as the Global Materials Market Segment Manager with Fluent and Product Manager for Polyflow. Thierry holds a degree in Mechanical Engineering from UCL.

Gareth received a MChem (Hons) degree from the University of Oxford in 2002. He remained in Oxford for a DPhil (PhD) in materials chemistry, which was completed in 2005. Gareth then spent three years working in science programme management, before returning to Oxford to take up a post-doctoral position in 2009. In September 2010 he joined London Metropolitan University as a Senior Lecturer in Pharmaceutical Science, and in November 2012 was appointed to the UCL School of Pharmacy as a Lecturer (Assistant Professor) in Pharmaceutics. He was promoted to Senior Lecturer (Associate Professor) in 2016. Gareth leads a group of around 15 researchers working on a range of topics in drug delivery and vaccine formulation, with a particular emphasis on the use of electrohydrodynamic approaches and inorganic nanomaterials in biomedicine. He is also the Programme Leader for the UCL MSc programmes in Pharmaceutics and Pharmaceutical Formulation & Entrepreneurship.
